Abstract
What's New in Analgesia and Sedation?

There have been relatively few new anesthetic agents developed in the past decade. We are left with drugs that have less than ideal pharmacologic properties, including both pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. We will review the basics of pharmacology pursuant to our practice and then discuss new agents with novel pharmacologic properties. In so doing we will hint at future developments in anesthetic agents that have greater specificity, less toxicity, and more favorable pharmacokinetic properties than the drugs that are currently available.
