Sim-Battle
15 November 2015 (Sunday)
Time: 14:00 – 15:30

Healthcare simulation is a range of activities that share the purpose of improving the safety, effectiveness, and efficiency of healthcare services. This year, the ASM Organizing Committee introduces the "Sim Battle", an exercise that challenges the healthcare teams to compete against each other in patient simulation scenarios. An expert panel will examine the team performance in the areas of teamwork and communication. Winners will be announced on 15 November. Stay Tuned!
Nursing Symposium
14 November 2015 (Saturday)
Time: 09:00 –12:00

Preanaesthesia assessment is crucial to both the perianaesthesia team and the patient, and a complete and thorough preoperative assessment directs the perianaesthesia team to form the best possible patient care plan. In every surgical patient's journey, a well-run preoperative assessment clinic (PAC) is an essential first step in ensuring excellence in quality and patient safety, including a patient interview for history and physical examination that focuses on risk factors for cardiac, pulmonary and anaesthetic complications and the determination of the patient's physical and mental functional capacity are necessary to any preoperative evaluation. In this nursing symposium, we are going to have a better understanding in the essential elements in a preanaesthesia assessment, as well as the nursing role in the perianaesthesia team in the preoperative assessment clinic.

W1 - Airway Workshop: ADAM-B (Bronchoscopy)
14 November 2015 (Saturday)
Time: 13:30 – 17:00

Airway management in modern anaesthesia is evoluting due to the increasing complexity of the surgical procedures and changing patients' demographics. The use of fibro-optic bronchoscope is getting more important in managing difficult airway situations or during one-lung ventilation. To help anaesthetists to equip themselves with the basic bronchoscopic skill, this workshop delivers hands-on practice on the use of bronchoscopy in some commonly encountered situations. Bronchial simulation training is available to allow the participants to master their skills in bronchoscopy. This workshop is an extension to the HKCA ADAM-A course and will be delivered by some of the ADAM instructors.

W2 - Critical Care Ultrasound Workshop
14 November 2015 (Saturday)
Time: 13:30 – 17:00

The use of ultrasound in intensive care and anaesthesia is rapidly expanding as a non-invasive diagnostic and monitoring tool. It helps to give invaluable complementary information to the objective clinical examination, facilitating effective and speedy point-of-care patient management. The objective of this workshop is to provide the delegates with basic practical ultrasound skills on the following areas: (i) Haemodynamic assessment, (ii) Lung ultrasound, (iii) Abdomen (FAST) exam, and (iv) Advanced Cardiac Life Support. This workshop consists of mini-lectures and hands-on-teaching of focused ultrasound scanning of a live model in small groups under the lead of a supervisor.

W3 - Regional Anaesthesia Workshop (Upper Limbs)
15 November 2015 (Sunday)
Time: 11:00 – 12:30

The use of ultrasound has become the standard of care as it offers a non-invasive and safe option when performing regional blocks. It is essential to grasp some basic understanding and experiences in this area. This workshop will be delivered by expert regional anaesthetists. We will focus on essential knowledge of ultrasound machine, probe handling and safe needling techniques. Workstations will include live model scanning for upper limbs and neuroaxial blocks. In addition, needling skills will be covered in the phantom station. Participants are expected to acquire basic knowledge of relevant ultrasound image and skills to perform common nerve blocks after the workshop.

W4 - Regional Anaesthesia Workshop (Lower Limbs)
15 November 2015 (Sunday)
Time: 14:00 – 15:30

The use of ultrasound has become the standard of care as it offers a non-invasive and safe option when performing regional blocks. It is essential to grasp some basic understanding and experiences in this area. This workshop will be delivered by expert regional anaesthetists. We will focus on essential knowledge of ultrasound machine, probe handling and safe needling techniques. Workstations will include live model scanning for lower limbs and trunk blocks. In addition, needling skills will be covered in the phantom station. Participants are expected to acquire basic knowledge of relevant ultrasound image and skills to perform common nerve blocks after the workshop.

W5 - Paediatric Life Support in OT Workshop
15 November 2015 (Sunday)
Time: 10:30 – 12:30

Crises management for paediatric anaesthesia can be stressful to many, particularly those conduct paediatric anaesthesia occasionally. Good outcomes depend on high vigilance, short response time, with high standard of resuscitation skills. Regular training and cognitive aids can facilitate quality of life support skills.

After the workshop, our participants should be able to:
• Recognize the importance of regular training of paediatric life support skills,
• Consolidate the resuscitation skills for management of paediatric crises, such as cardiac arrhythmia, cardiac arrest and respiratory distress,
• Familiarize with life support skills in difficult situations, including prone CPR, intraosseous access, needle cricothyroidotomy,
• Recognize the use of cognitive aids for rare crises and stressful situation, and
• Evaluate effectiveness of various modes of training for paediatric resuscitation and derive a practical training plan in their workplaces

W6 - Radiology Workshop
15 November 2015 (Sunday)
Time: 16:00 – 17:30

Dr. William Wai-Lun POON, consultant radiologist from Queen Elizabeth Hospital, will lead us in this one and a half hour interactive radiology workshop. This comprises a comprehensive review on the basic and more advanced skills on interpreting images from a wide range of commonly encountered clinical cases. A series of radiological films with coverage of must-not-miss and easy-to-miss radiological signs will be presented in a clinical scenario-based format. Participants will have the opportunity to sharpen their skills in appreciating key radiological features while having fun in a half an hour spot diagnosis session with real-time polling.
